News on fire (or speed)

There is a big fire burning in the East of London at the moment.

I got my first email from a friend about it at 12:21 (the BBC reported it stared at 12:00) and then the whole thing started picking up. The next report was from Ian through Twitter 2 minutes later, he’d already filmed and posted it up on YouTube. Then Flickr picked up and the blogs started appearing. Below is a screenshot from my Netvibes page, the top row is different people’s Flickr feeds. On the left you can see Ian’s and Mike’s blog about the fire.

The speed with which news and images are traveling is truly mind-boggling…
